Interpol joins in bioterrorism fight
Interpol has appointed a co-ordinator for a newly established US$1m bio-terrorism programme, which will stage an international conference next spring at the organisation's headquarters in Lyon, France.
He is Adrian Baciu, a senior officer with the Romanian police and former head of a unit specialising in nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. With only a small number of countries formally banning the development of pathogens into weapons, the project will identify gaps in national laws to advise police officers investigating bio-terrorist threats worldwide. The conference, planned for 28 February and 1 March, will involve senior law enforcement officials and other specialists.
