Gravatom wins containment contract
Gravatom Engineering Systems is to supply two shielded dispensing systems for an important new medical research centre at the University of Manchester.
The dispensing systems, known as PET dose drawing stations, will be installed at Manchester Molecular Imaging Centre (MMIC), above, a new site for research into cancer and brain disorders. PET (Positron Emission Tomography) is an advanced imaging technique that can provide earlier diagnosis of cancer, heart disease and neurological disorders. The equipment, which is designed for the safe dispensing of radioisotopes for delivery into patients who are having PET scans, will be used in a "clinical" environment next to a patient facility. Each dispensing system incorporates an 'L-block' shield with window, dose drawing arm, ion chamber shield and sharps bin. Gravatom is also supplying syringe shields, vial shields, lead safes and corian work surfaces. Graham Lewington, consultant PET specialist at the MMIC, said: "I have worked with Gravatom on other projects and they have always demonstrated enormous capacity for innovation with their design."
