Cupboards offer protection from chemical hazards
The dangers posed by breathing in toxic, irritant or allergy-inducing chemical substances in the laboratory can be avoided with the new generation of Superchemo cupboards from International pbi.
The range eliminates the risk of chemical contamination and is particularly suitable where it is not practical or convenient to install a fixed extraction ducting. The operating principle is based on a constant flow of air that is drawn into the cupboard through the front, then runs parallel to the work surface, removing toxic fumes. The air is then forced through the filter unit consisting of an electrostatic pre-filter that retains particles and on through an active carbon filter in which contaminating chemicals are neutralised and adsorbed. The filtered air may be reintroduced in the working environment or ducted outside. The company also offers agar-blister contact plates (pictured) for the periodic monitoring of surfaces likely to have been contaminated by pathogenic micro-organisms. For use by small or large laboratories or quality control departments, each plate is wrapped singly, enabling just one to be used at a time. With a seven-month shelf-life at room temperature, more than 10 different media are available for identification of micro-organisms. The plates are also offered in irradiated multi-packs for cleanroom use.
