Clorox adds hydrogen peroxide one-stop disinfectants to portfolio

Products take 30sec to one minute to kill bacteria and viruses

Clorox Professional Products, a US developer of infection control products, has introduced Clorox Healthcare Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner Disinfectant Wipes and Spray, a new line of ready-to-use, one-step disinfectants engineered with a patented activated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) formula.

The products are registered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to kill 32 bacteria and viruses in 30 seconds to one minute.

The Oakland, CA-based firm says the products are non-corrosive, compatible with many healthcare surfaces and medical equipment and are recommended for daily surface disinfection facility wide.

The new activated hydrogen peroxide products complement Clorox’s bleach and quaternary portfolio of healthcare products, which are used for dealing with C. difficile infections.

Clorox claims the products offer the fastest disinfecting technology since bleach; superior value and compliance since they cover and disinfect a greater surface area with fewer wipes; excellent aesthetics and fragrance; and broad healthcare surface compatibility. They are recommended for use on hard, non-porous surfaces such as stainless steel, vinyl, painted metals, glass, baked enamel, chrome, glazed tile, glazed ceramic, glazed porcelain, porcelain enamel, laminated surfaces, plastic and sealed fibreglass.

‘Modern EPA-registered hydrogen peroxide disinfectants are an excellent compound to use routinely throughout the hospital but consideration should be given to using a sporicidal agent in rooms of patients with C. difficile infection,’ said Dr William Rutala, director, Hospital Epidemiology, Occupational Health, and Safety Program at UNC Health Care System.

‘Hydrogen peroxide acts quickly against major pathogens, is odourless and is safe to use on most healthcare surfaces. When hydrogen peroxide disinfectants are EPA-registered to kill pathogens and are used properly, they can help to fight the spread of infections in healthcare environments.’

The wipes are offered in multiple packaging options for clinical surfaces (6.75in x 5.75in wipes, 155ct), multipurpose use (6.75in x 9in wipes, 95ct), terminal cleaning (12in x 11in wipes, 185ct and refill) as well as in a 32oz spray and a 128oz refill.
