Cherwell celebrates fortieth birthday
UK firm is dedicated to environmental monitoring and validation of sterilisation processes
Founded in 1971 in Bicester, UK by Lawrence Whittard as a veterinary diagnostic laboratory, Cherwell has evolved over the years to dedicate its products and services to environmental monitoring and validation of sterilisation processes.
The company’s integrated products for microbiological and quality assurance applications include Redipor prepared media, SAS microbial air samplers, DataTrace wireless datalogging systems, as well as UK distributorships for Raven and Apex Laboratories’ biological indicators.
A family company since its inception, Cherwell prides itself on developing long-lasting relationships; International PBI is one such example. What began as a promotion and service-based relationship has since developed into a close distributor relationship for the SAS air sampler range within the UK market, and Redipor prepared media for the Italian market.
Roberto Ligugnana, President of International PBI, affirms this.
‘It was over 30 years ago when I first met Lawrence Whittard in Milan and the start of a co-operation in the field of environmental microbiology. The introduction of the SAS (Surface Air System) air sampler by International PBI, combined with the production of ready to use, filled Contact Plates by Cherwell, formed a strong alliance,’ he said.
‘International PBI and Cherwell Laboratories in partnership are always ready for the introduction of new methods and techniques in the interest of the international microbiology community.’
Following seven years of sustained positive company growth, including a 20% increase in export sales in the past financial year, Cherwell will soon be opening an expanded cleanroom-based manufacturing and warehousing facility.
‘We pride ourselves in developing long-standing and profitable business relationships by delivering excellent customer service and support, so reaching our 40th anniversary is a testament to our dedication to that,’ said managing director Andy Whittard.
‘Our ability to supply variable quantities of prepared media products alongside our bespoke solutions sets us apart from other organisations and our ongoing expansion provides us with the foothold for our future growth.’
