Biomerics announces plant expansion and hires more staff
Includes ISO Class 8 cleanroom for injection moulding and device assembly
Biomerics, a supplier of polymer solutions to the medical device and healthcare industries, has completed a 10,000ft2 expansion at its plant in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The firm has hired 15 new members of staff as a result of the expansion of the ISO 13485 facility and will add another 20 positions over the next 12 months.
The expansion includes an ISO Class 8 cleanroom for injection moulding and device assembly, a medical device packaging cell, and a distribution warehouse.
“The additional cleanroom enables us to have dedicated production areas for material polymerisation and compounding, as well as injection moulding and medical device assembly,“ said Travis Sessions, president and chief executive of Biomerics.
“The new packaging and warehouse space expands our capability to manage sterile medical device fulfilment for our customers.“
Entelen, a Salt Lake City based design and construction firm that specialises in clean manufacturing facilities, managed the facility expansion.
“We designed the cleanroom to exceed Federal Standard 209e and ISO Class 8 requirements for cleanliness and to the highest safety standards,” said Steve Burt, chief executive of Entelen.
In addition to the facility expansion, Biomerics has invested US$1.5m in new plastics manufacturing equipment, including medical and pharma compounding lines and an automated material handling system, and has expanded its capabilities in injection moulding, vibration welding, and device assembly.
