Gerresheimer, a German supplier of glass and plastic products to the international pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, is expanding its capacities for the production of auto-injector systems at its facility in Küssnacht, Switzerland as it steps up its investment in the growing market for complex medical plastic systems.
The firm is also investing in a new on-site logistics building, planned for this year.
At Küssnacht, Gerresheimer has built a new ISO Class 8 cleanroom for the production and assembly of auto-injection systems, equipped with injection moulding machines, robots and automated assembly lines. In the process, the firm has created new jobs and is inviting applicants with suitable qualifications to apply.
Once the expansion has been completed, the Swiss site will have a production area of more than 3,700m2, of which 2,900m2 will be set aside for cleanroom production to ISO Class 8 and 800m2 will be designated as controlled areas to ISO Class 9. The facility will be equipped to cover the entire production chain, from manufacturing, post-production finishing through to assembly, testing and packaging.
The main focus of production operations at Küssnacht will be on the large-scale production of top-quality pharmaceutical products such as inhalers and auto-injection systems as well as products for laboratory and molecular diagnostics with an output in the multi-digit million range. The highly automated lines with a total of 40 injection moulding machines and 15 complex assembly stations will run 24/7.
The production site is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 and DIN EN ISO 13485:2003+AC2009 and passed an FDA inspection of the production of a medical product with direct blood contact without any observations.
