Toppoly Optoelectronics to build new manufacturing plant in Taiwan

Toppoly Optoelectronics has announced that it will be building a new manufacturing plant that will include 452,000ft2 of ISO Class 4-ISO Class 7 (Class 10-10,000) cleanroom space.

The plant is for the production of low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) TFT-LCD panels. These displays will be used in coming generations of portable communications devices such as laptops, mobile phones and digital video cameras. Flat screens using the new technology will replace traditional LCDs since they permit a more rapid electron flow as well as the installation of driver components within the LCD itself. The production of low-temperature TFT-LCDs must be conducted under the strictest cleanroom conditions.

The plant will be located at the Hsinchu Science-Based Industrial Park in Taiwan. The cleanroom facilities will be engineered by German-based company M+W Zander. Construction of the cleanrooms is expected to begin in September 2001 and should be completed by the end of the year, according to officials from M+W Zander.

"With this new major order, we are able to profit from the know-how transfer to other industries," said Lothar Spath, CEO of M+W Zander's parent company Jenoptik.
