The new 60,500 sq ft GMP compliant site in North Carolina includes ISO Class 7 and 8 cleanrooms, automated environmental monitoring, and laboratory testing capabilities to support the production of medical components and pharmaceutical packaging

Sanner, a global specialist in healthcare packaging and medical device components, has commenced manufacturing operations at its new facility in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The purpose-built site will produce critical injection-moulded components for medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging, alongside desiccant solutions, as part of the company’s strategic growth plan.

Spanning a total of 60,500 sqft (5,600 sqm), the new facility offers capacity for both contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) services and packaging operations.

It marks Sanner Group’s first North American site dedicated to injection moulding and pharmaceutical desiccant packaging.

Ted Mosler, President of Sanner US, said: “Strategically positioned in North Carolina, this site will be supported by our strong design, development and transfer engineering teams already based in Durham and Pittsboro.”

The GMP-compliant facility features automated environmental monitoring, with provision for both white room and ISO Class 7 and 8 cleanroom environments.

Full laboratory capabilities for testing and metrology are also incorporated.

An additional 20,000 sqft (1,800 sqm) of readily expandable production space enables Sanner to respond swiftly to customer demand.

Initial products manufactured in Greensboro include effervescent containers, the premium DASG-1 desiccant closure, and AdCap (trademarked) desiccant canisters, with further product lines scheduled to follow.

A newly installed filling room, equipped with automated high-speed desiccant filling lines, will also support customers in the North American pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets, providing locally manufactured, high-quality packaging solutions.

The new site comes shortly after Sanner’s acquisition of Durham-based CDMO Gilero, a company specialising in the design, development, manufacturing, assembly and packaging of medical products.

The expansion complements recent growth initiatives including the opening of a second production facility in Kunshan, China in 2023, and the launch of a new state-of-the-art headquarters and manufacturing site in Bensheim, Germany, earlier this year.

Christian Classen, Chief Sales Officer of the Sanner Group, said: “The opening of our new facility in Greensboro marks a key milestone in Sanner’s long-term growth strategy.

“We are strengthening our position as a trusted CDMO partner,  combining proven expertise, technological capability, and a strong track record in drug delivery, diagnostics and MedTech devices.

“At the same time, we are expanding our active primary healthcare packaging business with local production capacity in the United States. This enables us to serve our North American customers more efficiently, offering shorter delivery times and the consistent, high quality they expect from Sanner.”
