Manufacturer of automated microbiological systems, Synbiosis, has set up its Chromogenic ID software for use with Synbiosis colony counters.
The system now has a validated module for automatic identification of bacteria and yeasts on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Oxoid Chromogenic media.
Using this software allows microbiologists to quickly identify microbes cultured on the world’s most commonly used media.
The Chromogenic ID software module guarantees that microbiologists using the digital colour imaging technology systems ChromoZona, ProtoCOL 3 and Protos 3 can automate identification of microorganisms.
With minimal training, this automation can be set up on the Brilliance Candida, CRE and UTI ranges of ThermoFisher Scientific’s Oxoid chromogenic media.
By analysing true to life colour plate images captured by the three systems, the software’s algorithms can distinguish between similar shades of mauve, pink and blue colonies.
This provides fast identification of various microbes on four different Brilliance agar plate types. These include:
- Candida
- Carbapenem-resistant E. coli
- Klebsiella
- Enterobacter
- Serratia
- Citrobacter
- Enterococcus
- Proteus
- Morganella
- Providencia
Recorded data can be stored in a secure SQL database, making the software compliant with CFR 21 part 11 and easier to integrate into a GLP/GMP environment.
“Oxoid’s chromogenic media is extensively used world-wide, yet distinguishing between different coloured colonies on these media can be problematic and depends on the subjective colour vision of the scientist,” said Kate George, Senior Divisional Manager at Synbiosis.
