Evonik, the speciality chemicals company based in Germany, is working on an expansion plan to add a production line at its Antwerp, Belgium facility. The additional capacity aims to respond to an increase in demand for hydrogen peroxide (H202).
Michael Träxler, Business Line manager of active oxygens at Evonik,, explained: “We are seeing a very high and continuous increase in demand for hydrogen peroxide in the marketplace, both in traditional applications such as the pulp industry, and in particular speciality applications such as food safety or in wastewater treatment, where hydrogen peroxide is a more environmentally friendly alternative to other chemicals,."
The project will see production of hydrogen peroxide at the Antwerp site increase by 50%.
Due for completion in 2020, Evonik said the project will increase its efficiency and enable faster delivery of products to its customers.
“Our goal is to meet the very diverse needs of our customers in the best possible way and work together with them on solution concepts for the future. We distinguish ourselves above all by our high delivery reliability and customer proximity,” said Susanne Reinhart, General Manager of active oxygens, EMEA, in a statement.
“With the reorientation in Europe and the expansion of our production capacities, we are even better positioned to be able to answer a wide range of inquiries faster, more flexibly, and we are even closer to our customers,” she added.
CT understand that back in 2017, Evonik embarked on an effort to realign its four H202 production sites in Europe and increase capacity. As part of the project, the company also built a new logistics centre in Austria.
More recently, the German company announced €35 million expansion of its contract development and manufacturing capabilities for advanced injectables.
