DuPont e-guide explains how to protect workers from the risk of highly potent pharmaceutical ingredients

DuPont has published an e-guide looking at key factors that HSE managers can consider when selecting protective garments for employees working with Highly Potent Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (HPAPI).

The e-guide – entitled The HSE Manager’s Guide to Cleanroom Garments for HPAPI Manufacturing – offers an overview of HPAPI risks, including potential harm to cleanroom operatives from exposure to hazardous substances and contamination of pharmaceutical products. It also details essential steps to protect workers from such risks, including a 9-step guide to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) selection.

The text features individual sections on PPE fabric structure, such as DuPont™ Tyvek®, a non-woven material made out of continuous HDPE filaments, which offers breathability and excellent protection against solid or finished-dose liquid HPAPI. It also looks at other factors such as garment design, with zippers on DuPont™ Tyvek® garments featuring adhesive flaps and integrated chin flaps that offer optimum worker protection.

“The rapid expansion of HPAPI manufacturing to meet the demand for targeted therapeutic action means that many pharmaceutical workers may be exposed to the risks of these hazardous substances,” says Steve Marnach, EMEA Training Manager and Cleanroom Specialist at DuPont. “Global suppliers like DuPont Personal Protection have an expertise and the technology to support HPAPI manufacturers to take health and safety to the next level without having to choose between product protection or operator’s protection.”
