MeiraGTx is committed to the development of novel gene therapies to transform the lives of patients suffering from acquired and inherited disorders. It is pioneering the use of gene therapy to treat devastating neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The company is also developing innovative gene therapies for ocular diseases including rare inherited blindness and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
To enable it to carry out its work, MeiraGTx has commissioned a new UK facility.
International flooring specialist, Gerflor, has provided two projects for the new MeiraGTx cleanroom, to meet the project’s stringent requirements. Gerflor has been managing contamination in life science facilities for more than 80 years, delivering innovative solutions to meet the stringent demands of the market, which includes the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, medical device and biotech sectors.
CRC, a UK-based specialist in the design and construction of cleanrooms and controlled environments for science and technology, tendered for the MeiraGTx project on a design and build basis. CRC offers a total cleanroom solution from conception through to completion.
Ian Isted, Projects Director at CRC, said: “We specified approximately 1200m2 of Gerflor’s Mipolam Biocontrol using [its] Mixdim colour, together with the Gerflor Clean Corner System throughout the facility.”
CRC then appointed Brentwood-based 3D Flooring to install the specified products.
Paul Quinn, Director and Co-Owner, 3D Flooring said: “Gerflor’s Mipolam Biocontrol and [its] Clean Corner System are fantastic products. The Clean Corner System is quick to work with and extremely easy to install, the corner details are absolutely spot-on, delivering an excellent result every time.”
Mipolam Biocontrol is specifically formulated for cleanroom environments. Treated with a high performance coating, it is extremely resistant to chemicals, highly resistant to scratching and can withstand very heavy loads.
The flooring has been tested by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany and complies with GMP Class A for micro-biological cleanliness and provides an excellent resistance to bio-decontamination procedures.
Certified for use in ISO 4 cleanrooms, it is bacteriostatic, preventing the development of micro-organisms, and is 100% recyclable.
Quinn said: “For me there is no better product on the market when it comes to cleanroom and biotechnology in flooring. We have not used Gerflor products before, but certainly would again as we found them very easy to work with.”
