ASSA ABLOY installs cleanroom doors at Dublin biotech site
To protect against the build-up of dirt and contaminants
ASSA ABLOY Security Doors has supplied and installed its high performance cleanroom doors at one of the largest biotechnology sites in the world.
The Dublin-based facility manufactures, tests and develops medicines for patients worldwide and demands an environment that meets the stringent requirements of cleanrooms, as well as the sensitive nature of its work.
ASSA ABLOY supplied a complete package of bespoke cleanroom doors, as well as fire-rated cleanroom screens, to the main production building at the site. The products have helped provide superior protection against the build-up and transfer of dirt and contaminants owing to seamless finishes and wipe-clean, high-quality steel surfaces.
Working with contractor BAM, the doorsets were installed on-site to ensure fire safety and cleanroom compliance, in accordance with ISO 14644.
Seamus Sheahan, contracts manager for BAM Construction, said: “Having worked with ASSA ABLOY Security Doors before, we knew the project would be supported by its knowledge and experience from design through to installation.
“We also needed power operation for access control within more sensitive areas of the facility, which were supplied through sister company, Abloy. ASSA ABLOY was able to provide the full product and hardware specification, simplifying and streamlining the process and assuring our hygiene needs.”
Stephen Wilkinson, area sales manager for ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, added: “There was a considerable amount of time involved in getting this project to fabrication stage, as there were many design changes along the way due to the nature of creating a sterile environment; it is exacting work, and everything must be spot-on for the facility to continue its day-to-day production safely.
“One of our senior draughtsmen was tasked with the job of dealing with these requests, and was able to pull out all the stops to accommodate the various design challenges, delivering the project on time and to the bespoke specification.”
