Airkey delivers advanced modular cleanroom to Miami Life Sciences Facility

Published: 22-Jul-2025

Airkey has successfully commissioned a state-of-the-art modular cleanroom for a prominent life sciences company in Miami, marking another milestone in the company’s expanding portfolio of international projects

The newly installed facility features a precision-engineered, multi-class environment designed to meet the stringent requirements of modern biomedical research and production. At its core is anISO5(Class100) critical zone, constructed with lightweight yet durable aluminium alloy frames and high-performance sandwich panels, ensuring both structural integrity and contamination control. Surrounding support areas maintain ISO 7 (Class 10,000) conditions, utilising aluminium framing with frosted acrylic glazing to balance visibility with diffused lighting needs.

One of the project’s standout engineering achievements is its double-ceiling structure. By installing support frames above the cleanroom ceiling and integrating rock wool panels, the design creates a dedicated mezzanine plenum space that optimises airflow management.

"This approach delivers two key benefits," explained Wang, Chief Engineer at Airkey. "First, it creates a highly efficient air return path that maintains laminar flow patterns. Second, the insulated plenum acts as a thermal barrier, significantly reducing cooling loads in Miami's subtropical climate." We estimate that the system can achieve up to 30% energy efficiency compared to conventional single-ceiling designs, while still maintaining ±0.5℃ temperature stability – a critical factor for sensitive life science applications.

Understanding the facility's need for strict particulate control, the design incorporates: Personnel airlocks with HEPA-filtered air showers that remove 99.99%of particles ≥0.3μmPass-through chambers featuring interlocking doors and UV sterilisation options Material transfer protocols that maintain pressure cascades during equipment movement.

The cleanroom's modular construction allowed for factory fabrication of major components in China, with on-site assembly completed in just 5-7 days – minimising disruption to the client's ongoing operations. All materials and finishes were selected to meet ISO 14644-1 standards for pharmaceutical environments.
