AdvantaPure, the division of plastics tubing manufacturer NewAge Industries, has been granted a second US patent (number 9,869,408) for its AdvantaPass technology.
The US-based company introduced AdvantaPass four years ago. The product is a cleanroom wall portal system used to transfer large volumes of biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical fluids between different classes of cleanrooms. The system maintains the separation of room atmospheres and minimizes contamination risks.
AdvantaPass’s first US patent (number 8,870,230) was assigned for the system’s unique method of providing complete isolation between manufacturing suites when conveying multiple lines of fluid through a single wall portal. It integrates single-use tubing, connectors and seals with permanently-mounted stainless steel components to reduce and even eliminate certain cleaning validations.
Unlike the first patent, the new patent includes installation methods and uses for the AdvantaPass system.
Improvements to the technology such as welded wall portals, the elimination of adhesives or sealants, additional choices for sealing and clamping to create a closed system, and adjustable wall flanges are part of the second patent.
“It’s part of our commitment to continuous process improvement,” said Gregg Donovan, product marketing manager. “These upgrades to AdvantaPass give users more options when it comes to mounting and using the system while retaining its most important feature: using multiple fluid transfer lines safely through a single portal.”
AdvantaPass works with single-use tubing and components made from AdvantaSil platinum-cured silicone or from weldable and sealable AdvantaFlex biopharmaceutical grade TPE.
The system involves fewer moving parts and less maintenance than similar transfer methods and may be retrofitted into existing manufacturing suites or installed in newly constructed facilities.
