Averra Packaging has completed a major expansion of its cleanroom infrastructure at its Salt Lake City thermoforming facility.
The Utah-based manufacturer designs, develops and manufactures custom packaging, especially for medical devices, using processes like thermoforming.
This expansion doubles its cleanroom square footage to support rapidly growing demand in the medical technology sector.
“The increased capacity, redundancy, and greater flexibility … will be immediately noticeable to our customers while also keeping Averra in the perfect position to grow alongside the industry,” said Jeremy Horton, CEO of Averra Packaging.
The newly expanded cleanroom space has been certified to ISO Class 8 standards.
This certification ensures that the facility can reliably produce medical-grade thermoformed components under tightly controlled atmospheric conditions.
Thermoforming shapes plastic using heat and pressure, typically used for medical packaging, food packaging, consumer goods, and industrial components.
The expansion will allow for increased production capacity, enabling a throughput of medical trays and components, operational redundancy, and tighter tolerance control to manufacture highly precise parts.
The expanded cleanroom will be fully operational starting on November 24.
Typically, cleanroom certifications are conducted on an annual basis or after significant changes, such as construction or equipment upgrades, to ensure the cleanrooms continue to meet their specified classifications.
