The UK-based construction expert has completed the design and build of a new cleanroom for a long-standing medical device manufacturing client

UK-based Sovereign Commercial Installations has recently designed, managed, and constructed a brand new ISO Class 7 cleanroom.

Sovereign Commercial Installations told Cleanroom Technology that the company was contacted by one of its long-standing medical device manufacturers in West Sussex, requiring ISO Class 7 cleanrooms to extend the company's in-house production and assembly capacities for a new secured contract, within the existing footprint of one of their commercial units.

With the creative use of a new mezzanine floor, Sovereign Commercial Installations designed and built two cleanrooms, capitalising on both the Ground and First Floor areas.

The new mezzanine floor footprint being 87 sqm, with the addition of the first floor, provided a total of 158 sqm of cleanroom area to be utilised from this footprint, without taking the whole units floorspace. This ensured the remaining pallet racking was retained and secured, using Sovereign's anti-collapse mesh system.

"The cleanrooms were formed using an integrated double skin partition system, with a smooth internal/external finish having a single line joint, sealed with industry approved sealant, in keeping with the cleanroom design and validation ISO 14644 specification," Sovereign Contracts Manager, Mark Crossey, explained.

Crossey went on to say that the air quality control comprised of 11 No Fan Filter Units with gel seals, 8 No pre-filtered & heated HEPA fresh air outlets and air conditioning units, maintaining a constant 22ºC comfortable room temperature.

The pharmaceutical sector is one of Sovereign Commercial Installations' core areas of expertise. The company says that "pharmaceutical building and refurbishment work is a specialist area".
