Controlled Environment Business sales up by 16% to €20.8m

Vaisala, the Finland-based supplier of environmental monitoring systems for a range of critical environments, reported an 11% increase in net sales to €69.5m in the third quarter to 30 September.

Net sales in the Controlled Environment Business increased by 16% year-on-year to €20.8m.

The operating result for the July-September quarter was €5.3m, an increase of 517% from the previous year’s €0.9m. Higher sales and a favourable product mix, in addition to ongoing efficiency and process improvement programmes are driving growth, the firm said.

The operating result for the Controlled Environment Business Area was €3.0m, up 15% from the previous year’s €2.6m.

The company expects uncertainty in the global economy and financial crises to affect its business going forward, with net sales for the full year staying at the same level as 2011. It expects profits to improve.

President and CEO Kjell Forsén said Vaisala’s “good development” continued in the third quarter.

“Net sales increased in all regions on a year-on-year basis and growth was strongest in the APAC region,” he said. “Of our Controlled Environment customer groups life science continued to lead the growth with solid performance in North America but also with promising openings in Asia and Europe.

“Going forward, both the weather and industrial markets remain volatile and are subject to uncertainty. So far, the seasonality of net sales has been different this year in comparison with previous years. Our guidance for the full year 2012 remains unchanged.”

In the nine months from January to September, net sales were up 11% to €203.6m.

Net sales in the Controlled Environment Business Area were €56.9m, an increase of 7% year-on-year.

Net sales in EMEA were €70.7m (+26%), €78.7m in the Americas (+3%), and €54.3m (+7%) in the APAC region.

Operations outside Finland accounted for 98% of net sales.

Vaisala launched 26 new products, including product and software upgrades in the first nine months of this year.
