It is no surprise that travel restrictions over the past year have boosted virtual training and education for Life Sciences professionals. But the team in charge of STERIS Life Science webinars was surprised to see registrations during that time double, nearing the 10,000 mark.
“Webinars have always been a convenient option for education, discussing industry best practices, and global benchmarking,” said George Verghese, Technical Services Senior Director for STERIS Life Sciences. “However, it’s obvious that webinars have become a developmental lifeline for those in the industry working from home or unable to participate in in-person meetings.”
STERIS has long hosted webinars on contamination control topics. Recent topics include VHP Solutions for Clean Room Decontamination, Component Prep for Sterile Fill-Finish Manufacturing, Green Principles for Sterilisation, and Revisions to EU Annex 1 regulation. Attendance for these webinars was always considered high, but now it’s not uncommon to have several hundred attendees in a single session and last year alone, they hosted over 50 free webinars for industry professionals.
“Webinars have provided the capability to continue interacting with customers during COVID,” said Aaron Mertens, Technical Service Manager, “Where once we would work with Customers elbow-to-elbow reviewing cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation best practices, we now share knowledge and interact virtually.”
“We know it’s tough when a person has to sit at their desk all day attending virtual meetings. The last thing they may want to do is spend more time in front of their computer screen,” said Mertens who recently conducted a three-part training series on Aseptic Fill-Finish. “That’s why we have added interactivity to our webinars with live Q&A and surveys to maintain attention and interest.”
