Pharmig announces programme for 25th Annual Conference in Oxford

The UK pharmaceutical microbiology association's annual two-day event will cover hot topics in microbiology and will host a Gala Dinner and Dance

Taking place at the Crowne Plaza Heythrop Park, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire on 29-30 November 2017, this 25th anniversary conference will reflect back on how microbiology has changed over the past 25 years while also looking forward to what to expect in the future.

With that theme in mind, David Begg and Sharon Johnson, Pharmig Honorary Members, will talk about past microbiology and how it has changed from an ex-inspector and microbiologist point of view.

Looking to the future, Andrew Hopkins, Expert GMDP Inspector with the MHRA, will discuss the use of Rapid Microbiological Methods from an MHRA perspective.

John Metcalfe, PhD, Master Microbiology Reviewer, CDER, FDA will provide a CDER perspective on Burkholderia Cepacia Complex with regard to aqueous non-sterile drugs.

Geert Verdonk, Director Global Center of Expertise Microbiology, Merck, will talk about "Multivorans — the Perfect Storm".

The day will include a choice of open discussion sessions on topics such as: Cleaning and Disinfectants, Endotoxins and Rapid Methods, Environmental Monitoring, Data Integrity and Microbiology General Q&A Surgery.

Day two of the programme will include Neil Lewis, Global Household Care Microbiologist, P&G (USA), highlighting an alternative approach to equipment sanitisation.

Les Meader, MD, Omnia CS and Foresight Innovations, will discuss "Understanding human error – our role as ambassadors for future human error prevention".

Andrew Hopkins will give a second presentation on regulatory updates, Annex 1, Brexit and EMA/FDA coordination.

Edward Tidswell, PhD, Executive Director, Microbiology Quality Assurance, Merck & Co., and Kevin O’Donnell, Market Compliance Manager, HPRA, will cover Risk Assessment and Quality Risk Management – 10 years on and where we need to go in microbiological QRM.

Mark Sutton,Scientific Leader for Healthcare Biotechnology, Public Health England (PHE) will discuss building a case to support implementation of tAK indicators in pharmaceuticals.

Edward Tidswell returns on day two to discuss changes to the USP around sterility testing and parametric release.

Willy Verstraete, LabMET, University of Ghent, Belgium, will talk about Innovative Eco-Microbiology and its potential for the needs of the next decade.

Day two will also include a Q&A Session with the regulators.
