Pfizer's Tuas 2 facility in Singapore has won 2024 ISPE FOYA Category for Operations, Project Execution.
ISPE's Facility of the Year Awards is an annual programme that recognises state-of-the-art projects utilising new, innovative technologies to improve the quality of products, to reduce the cost of producing high-quality medicines, and demonstrate advances in project delivery.
For this project, Puritas Asgard was the cleanroom subcontractor, and Exyte Singapre was the construction manager.
The project was completed ahead of schedule (by 1 year) and under budget (about 20% less)
"Puritas Asgard were delighted to be awarded the contract for this project, to successfully complete the detailed design, supply and installation of the API Facility Extension Cleanroom Project for Pfizer Singapore," Puritas Asgard stated in a LinkedIn post.
Puritas explained that it provided a complete cleanroom envelope consisting of ceilings, partitions, doorsets, cleanroom furniture, lighting, interlocking and protection over 2,000 sqm of space, over two buildings.
"Congratulations and well done to all involved and we wish Pfizer continued success for the future," Puritas added.
The facility
The highly automated API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) production facility is over 38,000 sqm and its design led to the introduction of the "central pool concept" and the spine corridor connecting all the main buildings, as ISPE's website states.
This central spine corridor is to help with efficiency of moving assets. The central pool concept then segregates process equipment into discrete processing suites. Both of these design principles are designed to create efficiency and minimise delays in production.

The concept design was completed in late 2019, reaching delivery to Pfizer in mid 2023. Despite the challenges created by the pandemic, the design, procurement, and construction continues, and deadlines did not change. In fact, the project was completed ahead of schedule (by 1 year) and under budget (about 20% less).
With the management of up to 4,500 people on site at one time, and the COVID-19 impacts, these were just some of the reasons for the project execution win.
