GE’s Measurement & Control division has built a new world class cleanroom for silicon processing at its manufacturing site in Groby, UK. The new facility is a critical part of the manufacturing process for the advanced industrial pressure sensors made at the site.
GE says the investment showcases its commitment to building the most advanced technologies and processes and ensuring the highest quality of pressure sensors for its global industrial customers.
'After a challenging 13 months, it is fantastic to have a new world class silicon facility where we can focus on meeting our customers’ needs now and in the future,' said Graham Dawber, General Manager at the Groby site, which employs 680 people. 'With these improvements, we can better serve customer demands and extend our leadership position in our target markets.'
The new facility offers increased manufacturing productivity with less silicon scrap, improved product quality and flexibility to meet customer demand. Automation of processes has also been improved, allowing more sensors to be produced per shift. In addition, new product planning procedures allow sections of sensors batches to be dedicated to specific product lines much sooner; reducing customer delivery times.
With a combined 40-year history of silicon processing and sensor manufacturing at the Groby site — first by Druck Ltd and then by GE when it acquired Druck in 2002 — GE has a reputation for high quality, high accuracy pressure sensor equipment for aerospace, oil and gas, power generation and the automotive sectors.
