Fenland Laundries now holds 100% of the shareholding in UK cleanroom garments specialist Micronclean and with it the right to trade as Micronclean across the UK.
Fenland Laundries will change its name to Micronclean and trade exclusively under the Micronclean brand for all of its business activities.
Fenland Laundries has a long history dating back to 1877. It founded Micronclean in 1980 as a joint venture with other laundries to supply a nationwide cleanroom laundry service. Since then, Fenland Laundries has grown to be one of the UK’s largest general workwear rental suppliers and, trading as Micronclean, is now the largest supplier of cleanroom laundry services.
Fenland’s acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, of the remaining 50% of shares in Micronclean held by Berendsen Cleanroom Services closes the circle started 35 years ago when Fenland created the joint venture.
The firm says its decision to let go of the historic Fenland name and to trade exclusively as Micronclean is a fitting tribute to the company’s evolution into the UK's technological market leader of industrial workwear, laundry and cleanroom services, including the supply of cleanroom consumables.
The move also signposts Micronclean’s commitment to continue to build on this technological lead through its focus on innovation and to do so on a nationwide basis, the firm said.
As part of the acquisition process, Berendsen Cleanroom Services has signed a distributor agreement with Micronclean. Under this agreement Berendsen will continue to distribute Micronclean’s range of cleanroom consumable products to its cleanroom laundry customers.
In a separate announcement on 30 June, Micronclean acquired all of the share capital of Critical Environmental Solutions (CES) for an undisclosed sum.
Micronclean Chairman, Simon Fry, said there is a 'natural synergy' between the two businesses, while acknowledging that the business models of the two companies are different and that Micronclean will therefore 'hold CES as a standalone investment'.
'While Micronclean has focused on building its own branded range of innovative cleanroom products, CES has focused on acting as a distributor for a wide portfolio of world leading brands. I would like to assure CES customers that CES will continue to trade exactly as it did pre acquisition and that all staff will remain in place at the CES headquarters in Swindon, Wiltshire and its sales office in Rochester, Kent.'
