Microbiological testing firm, MSL Solution Providers, has added the EN 17272 test to its roster of services, making it the UK’s only commercial testing company currently offering this in-house. Companies can now have their automated airborne systems, more commonly known as ‘automatic fogging machines’, tested in its brand new purpose-built lab. This building has been specially commissioned for this process and is equipped for both whole rooms and small enclosure testing.
Prior to October 2020, regulators have required efficacy data produced using the French standard NFT 72-281. However, the new European standard EN 17272 has replaced this, so manufacturers now need to have their systems re-tested to ensure compliance.
This standard determines the disinfectant activity of processes used in the medical, veterinary, food, industrial, domestic, and institutional areas, using automated processes for distributing chemicals by air diffusion with no operator manually applying the disinfectant. This includes the disinfection of nonporous surfaces but not that of the air.
Carolyn Burney, Operations Director - Technical Projects at MSL Solution Providers, said: "While automatic fogging machines are not new, they have risen to prominence during the pandemic, because they are able to sanitise large internal spaces, common touch surfaces, and hard-to reach areas effectively. Our new service offers companies the opportunity to have their automated airborne systems independently validated in the UK, saving the stress and expense of getting them to mainland Europe, especially pertinent in light of the current challenges prompted by both coronavirus and Brexit."
