Catalent Pharma Solutions has completed a US$5.5 million expansion programme at its 200,000+ square foot Philadelphia site in Pennsylvania. The site is one of the largest sites in Catalent’s global clinical supply network. The company is a global provider of advanced delivery technologies and development solutions for drugs, biologics and consumer health products.
The investment has provided the site with a 40% increase in pallet space for both refrigerated and ambient clinical storage, additional cold chain packaging areas, and a new clinical label control area.
Amy Lombardi, group product manager, Clinical Supply Services, explained: "Catalent’s expanded Philadelphia Clinical Supply Services facility offers over 1.3 million cubic-feet of temperature-controlled storage environments including controlled ambient temperature between 15°C and 25°C, refrigerated (2-8°C), frozen (-15 to -25°C) and deep frozen (-30 to -50°C and -70C to -90°C). Temperatures can be adjusted to accommodate the precise requirements of a customer’s investigational medicinal products. The facility can also accommodate US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Schedule I-V products for those clinical materials that require non-standard or very narrow temperature ranges."
Lombardi continued: "When it comes to packaging, the site offers refrigerated and freezer cold room environments and, if necessary, can perform packaging over dry ice to maintain product integrity during handling. All controlled temperature clinical storage areas are temperature mapped, alarmed and monitored constantly."
The facility, which is located near many customers and major transportation hubs, also features a new campus-wide environmental monitoring and building management system.
“The expansion not only allows us to meet the demand for additional capacity to serve large-scale clinical studies today, but also provides the space necessary for future growth,” said Albert Quintero, general manager, Clinical Supply Services. “We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers at these new facilities,” he added.
Catalent operates sites in the US, UK, Germany, Japan and China, and an extended network of more than 50 depots. Its clinical supply services team handles a broad range of international compliance and distribution requirements.
