Vaisala to cut ten jobs in Vancouver, Canada

Result of relocation of board assembly, final assembly and testing to Malaysia and Finland

Finland-based Vaisala, a supplier of environmental monitoring instruments for a range of critical environments, is to axe ten jobs at its business in Vancouver, Canada.

This is a result of moving board assembly, final assembly, testing, new product calibration and related activities from Canada to Malaysia and Finland, the firm says.

The move follows the finalisation of the integration of the Veriteq Instruments life science business into Vaisala and will ‘increase scalability, efficiency and flexibility of global operations’.

The jobs will go by the 30 June 2013.

Vaisala says a one-off charge of approximately €400,000 relating to restructuring activities will be booked by the end of 2012.

The estimated annual cost reduction is €500,000, which will be fully realised from 2014 onwards and about half during 2013.

Vaisala bought Veriteq, a continuous monitoring system and data logger company based in Vancouver, for €8.5m in 2010.
