To supply sterilisation equipment and chemistries

US-based infection control specialist Steris is to supply services and equipment – including the Amsco V-PRO 1 Plus low temperature sterilisation system – to the King Hamad University Hospital in Bahrain, UAE in a deal worth BHD460,000 (US$1.2m; €873m).

The Amsco V-PRO 1 Plus low temperature sterilisation system is based on Vaporised Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP), which features a non-lumen cycle, enabling the system to sterilise devices such as telescopes, light cables and batteries in 28 minutes. A longer 55-minute cycle is also available for sterilising lumened instruments.

The system is said to be effective against a full spectrum of pathogens including spores, bacteria and mycobacteria.

The agreement to supply sterilisation equipment and chemistries to the Department of Sterilisation was signed with Gulf Pharmacy, Steris’s agent in Bahrain.

Bahrain's Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Lieutenant General Dr Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, said that Steris equipment was selected based on the company’s advanced technologies and flexible solutions, as well as its ability to fulfill the 311-bed university hospital’s administrative and regulatory requirements.
