Steris buys UK company Medisafe Group in £27m deal

From its HQ in Bishop's Stortford, UK Medisafe manufactures cleaning systems for complex medical instruments


Steris has bought the UK company Medisafe Group in a £27m deal. Founded in and headquartered in Bishop's Stortford, UK Medisafe manufacturers its product range in the UK, with international sales to over 70 countries worldwide.

Steris, a specialist in infection prevention, decontamination, and surgical and critical care, employs some 14,000 people worldwide. The company achieved a 21% revenue increase to US$2.24 billion for the financial year to 2016, compared with $1.85bn for 2015.

Medisafe has built its business around cleaning the inside of complex surgical devices and its principal activities include ‘sonic irrigation’ equipment and accessories for sterile processing and central sterilisation supply departments (CSSDs). It also supplies mortuaries, operating rooms, endoscopy departments, veterinary surgeries, dentists, pharmaceutical industries and research labs.

Law firm Birketts advised the owners on the sale to the US based corporation.

Medisafe's products and services perfectly complement Steris’ Healthcare Products Segment and I am confident that the business will continue to grow at a rapid but sustainable rate.'
