Cutting Corners has developed a ground-breaking revolutionary system for the installation of sheet vinyl in cleanrooms that has now been granted its second patent. Both patents have been added to the International Standards Database which covers ISO14644-4 Clean Rooms and Controlled Environments Design and Build.

Tarkett UK, a leading global flooring manufacturer, has recently approved and recommended the Cutting Corners system and installation method.

Jason Crump, Managing Director of Tarkett UK, said: 'Innovation in product development is crucial to Tarkett. Our business model is underpinned by the commitment to offer our end users practical, comprehensive solutions to specific and sometimes challenging issues. The Cutting Corners system works perfectly with our products to this end and we are extremely pleased to be working with them to deliver these solutions together.'

David Brown, Technical Consultant for Tarkett UK, said: 'The Cutting Corners patented system is the most significant improvement in installation techniques I have seen for many years.

'The system has simplified the installation of vinyl in the internal corners of clean air rooms and controlled environments. Using the system makes these corners consistent, smooth and creates and provides a more uniform finish that it easy to clean and maintain. This in turn will reduce any build up and hibernation of bacteria in arguably the most important part of any sterile area.'

The patented system is being requested by facility managers and has already been successfully installed in a number of pharmaceutical and healthcare facilities in the UK and Ireland.

A recent project at an NHS Hospital in Northern Ireland, for example, has prompted the lead architect, Richard Keys, to comment: ‘Our client had very specific requirements for the floor, wall and ceiling finishes for their rooms with all internal/external corners to be coved, providing rooms that would be easy to clean and meet all the statutory requirements required for them to be licensed.

'Tarkett and Cutting Corners came to us with solutions that meet the client's very demanding requirements. We knew that the problem area and most important junction detail to get right was the internal corners. Using Tarkett Optima vinyl and the Trimitre Cove along with the company's Mitre Maker meant that all the internal corners in the rooms had a consistent and uniform cove that was fully welded and sealed and met all the client's requirements. All other junctions were dealt with using Cutting Corners coving systems which provided us with a very uniform system with all coves of the same radius and the vinyl fully welded. With the consistency and uniformity this system provides I would have no hesitation in specifying this on future projects where same level of finish is required.’
