Food and beverage producers can extend product shelf life by introducing new containment measures, as Connect2Cleanrooms has demonstrated.

The latest 'mini environment' approach to manufacturing in clean air means soft drinks manufacturers can now undertake phases of production under localised cleanroom conditions, reducing the risk of airborne contamination of products and any resultant degradation of flavour, colour or potential detrimental effect on shelf life.

As soft drinks manufacturers have responded to consumer demand for a reduction in the levels of preservatives and natural products with a 'home-made' shelf appeal, the potential for contamination from micro-organisms, particularly at end-of-line bottling and packaging operations, has increased. By preventing airborne micro-organisms coming into contact with often warm product, packaging and measuring and dosing equipment, manufacturers can help protect products and increase shelf life.

The 'mini environment' approach, from clean air system specialist Connect2Cleanrooms, provides a controlled environment around a specific production activity at most risk from contamination by airborne particles, eliminating the need for the whole of the production plant to be contained within a purpose-built cleanroom. This significantly reduces costs and makes clean air production an option for soft drinks manufacturers of all sizes.

Connect2Cleanrooms’ modular cleanroom concept is already proven in soft drinks manufacturing and dairy applications with enclosures designed around each application. Units can be portable and expandable, and are easy to assemble. Available for small, localised areas of a few square metres to larger cells that can be linked together, the enclosures come with either soft wall or rigid panels, HEPA filters and variable atmosphere controls.

The HEPA filter offers efficient particulate filtration through the enclosure on a repeated basis, while a laminar airflow directs any airborne particulates away from the production or packaging area where product or pack could become contaminated.

Validatable to ISO 14644-1 from Class 5 to 8, modular cleanrooms from Connect2Cleanrooms can help manufacturers meet appropriate environmental standards.
