The Swedish medical device company has signed a distribution agreement with Ecomed Services for Belgium and the Netherlands

Bactiguard, a medical device company based in Sweden, has entered a distribution agreement with Ecomed Services for Belgium and the Netherlands. Ecomed is a specialist provider of innovations in infection control in the Benelux region.

Every year millions of people are affected by healthcare associated infections (HAIs), causing great suffering to patients. According to the company, Bactiguard´s antimicrobial and preventive solution reduces the number of HAIs related to the use of medical devices. Bactiguard anticipates the reduction of HAIs will lead to increased patient safety, reduced usage of antiobiotics and prevention of the spread of multi-resistant bacteria, leading to significant cost savings and less loss of life.

“Ecomed is a specialised distributor of medical devices to the public and private hospitals in Belgium and the Netherlands. Growing its business by adding products that cater to the needs of the healthcare sector, in particular infection control, is at the top of the agenda in many countries," commented Christian Kinch, CEO of Bactiguard.

"We are confident that they have the competence and resources required to strengthen the Bactiguard brand in this region. We have not been satisfied with the sales development in Belgium for some time and have therefore been looking for a new distributor. By teaming up with Ecomed, an experienced and well connected partner, we are able to enter the Netherlands and expand our European coverage,” said Kinch.

The Bactiguard technology works by preventing bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation on medical devices. Bactiguard’s urinary catheters, endotracheal tubes and central venous catheters prevent some of the most common infections, which appear in the urinary tract, the blood stream and the respiratory tract, claims the company.

“We are excited to enter into partnership with Bactiguard and add its innovative solutions for infection prevention to our portfolio. We strongly believe in Bactiguard’s technology to effectively reduce HAIs and consumption of antibiotics throughout the Benelux region,” said Bart Leemans, CEO of Ecomed.
